Glass Bead FAQ

Lampwork.

What does "Lampwork" mean? It's a technical term for how glass beads are made. Artisans use a "lamp" or torch to melt rods of glass and wind them around a metal rod core ("mandrel") where the hole will ultimately be. Stay tuned for more on this.

About the beads and glass.

I use mostly Italian (Moretti) and German (Lauscha) "soft" glass, and all of my finished beads are popped immediately into a hot kiln (970 degrees - ouch!) to anneal overnight for lasting beauty. Never buy beads that are not kiln annealed, as they may break at any time and possibly injure you. And by all means, don't let your children play with glass beads as they may choke on them.

About the jewelry.

My jewelry items feature 100% sterling or fine silver findings (e.g. clasps, spacer beads), freshwater pearls, and Swarovski crystals, and are strung on multi-strand plastic-coated wire for strength. I make my own clasps and rings.

Where to Buy My Beads and Jewelry

I am presently selling my work through a wonderful site called "Etsy", Your place to buy and sell all things handmade. It's easy to sign up - all you need is an email address and a password. Check it out, and make this Christmas an "all handmade" holiday. There is some incredible talent on Etsy.

I want you to be completely happy with your beads. If you are unhappy in any way with them, I will refund your purchase price once they are returned.

Glass beads are absolutely stunning in the sunlight. Be sure to enjoy yours in the sun from time to time!!
